The advanced waterfall chart for Power BI
Cumulative and comparison waterfalls, variation arcs, a broken-axis floor offset, variance rails, and an Excel-style analysis table — in one visual that never touches your data.
What it does
Eclor Waterfall renders your report data as a waterfall chart, entirely inside the Power BI sandbox. Drop a dimension and one or more measures, pick a mode, and the visual builds the pillars, bridges, connectors and labels for you.
Cumulative mode
One measure, N categories chained by bridges from a starting point to an optional grand-total pillar. The classic waterfall, done right — including negative running totals.
Comparison mode
Two or more measures (budget vs. actual, year vs. year…) shown as pillars, with synthesized variance bridges explaining the gap between them. Supports three or more measures chained.
Features
Y-axis floor offset
Raise the chart floor to amplify small variations between tall pillars. A broken-axis indicator is drawn automatically so readers are never misled.
Variation arcs
Brackets between pillars showing the change as a value, a percentage, or both — with per-arc visibility, arrow-end styles and conditional colours.
Variance rails
Dedicated variance measures rendered as rails above the chart, computed at the X-axis grain even when an analysis dimension splits the bars.
Analysis table
Excel-style footnote rows under the chart, aligned with the bars, with cross-highlighting and focused per-cell tooltips.
Legend & stacked segments
An optional legend dimension splits bars into stacked segments, with per-category colour overrides.
Conditional formatting (fx)
Data-driven colour rules on bars and labels, resolved per data point — including measure-driven rules.
Faithful number formatting
Respects your model's format strings verbatim; automatic or fixed display units without double-scaling artefacts.
Accessible by design
Keyboard navigation, ARIA labels, visible focus indicators, and full high-contrast theme support.
Field wells
Six data roles — only the first two are required.
| Role | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Category (X axis) | The dimension driving the bars — one bar per unique value. |
| Value | One or more measures. One for cumulative mode; two or more for comparison bridges. |
| Variance | Optional variance measures rendered as rails above the chart. |
| Legend | Optional dimension for stacked segments. |
| Table | Optional analysis dimension feeding the footnote table. |
| Tooltips | Extra measures shown in the hover tooltip. |
Format pane options
Everything is configurable from the standard Power BI Format pane — no external configuration, no licence key.
| Card | What you control |
|---|---|
| General | Waterfall mode (Cumulative / Comparison), grand-total pillar, empty-category behaviour. |
| X axis / Y axis | Labels, orientation, fonts, titles, gridlines, floor offset and display units. |
| Bridges | Increase / decrease colours, labels, and conditional fx colour rules. |
| Pillars | Which categories are pillars, their colours and labels. |
| Variation arcs | Per-arc visibility, label contents (value / percentage / both), arrow ends, colours. |
| Variance rails | Rail visibility and global styling, plus per-measure formatting. |
| Connectors | The dashed links between consecutive bars. |
| Legend | Position and text styling of the legend. |
| Table | Fonts, borders, alignment and number formatting of the analysis table. |
| Layout | Margins, bar width and spacing. |
| Subtotals | How engine subtotals feed the chart when an analysis dimension is present. |
Get the visual
Eclor Waterfall is 100% free. No premium tier, no licence key, no feature gates, no ads — and it will stay that way.
The visual is on its way to Microsoft AppSource. In the meantime, you can request the .pbiviz package by email and import it directly into Power BI.
Your data stays yours
Eclor Waterfall collects, transmits, stores and shares no data. It runs entirely inside the Power BI sandbox: no network calls, no persistent storage, no telemetry, no cookies, no fingerprinting, and no elevated privileges requested.
